Veterans make up one in four homeless people in the United States, though they are only 11% of the general adult population, according to a recent report. About one-third of the ADULT homeless population are veterans. Current population estimates suggest that over 196,000 veterans (male and female) are homeless on any given night and perhaps twice as many experience homelessness at some point during the course of a year. Many other veterans are considered near homeless or at risk because of their poverty, lack of support from family and friends, and dismal living conditions in cheap hotels or in overcrowded or substandard housing. New study finds "more pension benefits are available to vets, but many of them aren't told." Nationally, the VA concluded up to $22 billion a year in pensions goes unspent because many vets "are completely unaware the program exists." The program is VA's Improved Disability Benefits Pension. A veteran with 90 days active duty, with 1 day beginning or ending during a period of War, or a surviving spouse of a war veteran may qualify. These period of war veterans do not need combat experience or a VA disability rating to qualify, and includes National Guard and Reserves. There are three levels of pension benefits: Basic, Housebound and Aid & Attendance. Basic pension benefits are for low-income veterans and surviving spouses who are disabled or over the age of 65.

Staying At Home
Most of us do not want to be a burden to our family and friends, but sometimes we need help doing the things we always did for ourselves. The Aid & Attendance benefit pays for Home Care allowing you to receive the care you need to stay in your own home. We can help you apply for this important benefit.
Veterans Care Providers Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization, works within local communities to insure all veterans receive pension and other benefits to which they are entitled.
